What Is MiniVAN?

MiniVAN is a mobile canvassing app that allows organizations and campaigns to contact voters, collect data, and sync the information back to their database in real time, eliminating the need for paper lists and data entry. You must have a smartphone to use MiniVAN for canvassing and/or dropping literature. If you can spend 15 minutes before your first volunteer shift to watch this short video, install the MiniVAN app, set up an ActionID, and make sure you can log in, it will make for a much smoother shift!

What To Do Before Your First Block Walk or Lit Drop Shift

Step 1: Watch this short MiniVAN tutorial video.
Step 2: Download the app to your smart phone.
If you are an Apple user, download MiniVAN from the App Store. If you are an Android user, download MiniVAN from the Google Play Store.
​Step 3: Create your ActionID and log in.
If you don't already have an ActionID, follow the directions to set up an account. Remember to save your user name and password! 

​Then use your new ActionID to log in. You will be required to use two-factor authentication when you attempt to log in. The code to verify your login will come to your text messages.

Copy the verification code from the text by selecting it and then pressing and holding the code to copy. Then paste it into the Verification Code field and tap Verify.

What To Do on the Day of Your Shift

Step 4: Enter a list number.
When you pick up materials for your shift, you will be given a list number.  Log into MiniVAN and enter the list number. Then select Download List.  **Note: If you're doing  a distributed canvass, you must do this step in the neighborhood where you'll be canvassing because your GPS location will determine the doors assigned to you. If you are working on a pre-cut turf, you can enter the list number at any time.  Your assignor can tell you which kind of list you have been assigned.
 
Step 5: Start your route!
Click “Find My Next Door” to get started. If you're knocking on doors, use the script in VAN to guide your conversation. Make sure you mark the names of any voters you speak to in VAN so we have a record of who has been targeted. If you're doing a lit drop, leave the literature at the door and indicate you have left literature by checking the box in VAN for each person in the household. Then head to the next door!
