#GSD Legislative Action Day

On Wednesday, March 22, Blue Action Groups will have their first #GSD Lobby Day at the Capitol. This is an opportunity to visit the offices of lawmakers and discuss progressive priorities. We will start the morning at 9 amat Sweetwaters Coffee a few blocks from the Capitol Building. Then we will walk to the Capitol and begin visiting legislative offices. A detailed schedule of activities will be emailed to participants.

Tuesday evening March 21st at 7pm there will be a meeting conducted via zoom to tell you what to expect and to teach you how to effectively advocate.

It will be fun! And did I mention there will be coffee? Join us!

Texas Lege Legislative Action Team

The Texas legislature gives citizens several ways to influence the process -- even dyed in the wool liberals like us. In fact, participation can be as easy as going to the Capitol and registering your support (or opposition) to a bill you're concerned about on a computer screen. Plus, for the first time ever, BANA has developed a Rapid Response Legislative Action Team to keep members informed on significant bills. It's more fun to take action when you do it together!

Monthly Meeting

At this month's BANA meeting, Lana Hansen and Sri Kulkarni of Texas Blue Action will talk about the impact that Blue Action had on 2020 races statewide. Some of our legislators might also be able to take some time from their busy legislative schedules to show up at the meeting. As always, we'll also discuss volunteer opportunities, and what YOU can do to make a difference at the Lege. Join us -- and bring a friend!

Get or Renew your VDR certification

Picture
A Volunteer Deputy Registrar or VDR is a volunteer trained and appointed by the county voter registrar to register voters. Registering more Democrats to vote is an important step toward turning Texas blue. Everyone's VDR certifications expired in December. Travis County conducts voter registration training both in person and via zoom.

Locate your precinct chair

Blue Action North Austin is divided into four organizing committees of
10 precincts or less. A precinct is a geographic group of about 2-3,000 voters - a true grass roots group that we use to organize our get out the vote efforts.

Each BANA committee has a leader who works with the precinct chairs or lead organizers in that area to mobilize voters.

Starting now, we will canvass to locate Democratic voters in our area and then we will contact them again at their door before early voting begins to make sure they know when and where to vote.
